Civil Engineer Ii
Under general supervision, provides engineering and administrative support for infrastructure and capital projects with regard to design, development, and coordination. This position inspects construction sites and performs related work as required.

Hiring salary range: $66,310.40 - $82,867.20, depending on qualifications
Full salary range: $66,310.40 - $99,424.00
Examples of Duties:
- Develops and reviews public improvement contracts to ensure compliance with City and DOT standards and contract specifications, and addenda;
- Develops and reviews construction plans to ensure compliance with local, state, and other regulatory requirements, City engineering and design specifications and standards, physical site specifications and requirements, and sound engineering practices;
- Communicates potential conflicts with existing infrastructure;
- Conducts on-site inspections of public improvement projects to ensure compliance with City standards and plan specifications related to buildings, streets, utilities, sidewalks, bridges, and drainage systems;
- Consults with contractors, developers, property owners, and City departments to ensure infrastructure is built properly and complies with standards and requirements;
- Prepares requests for qualifications for design and construction engineering inspection services when outside consultants are necessary and recommends consultant selection;
- Interacts with staff from various departments and with consulting engineers to resolve site-specific problems;
- Conducts field surveys and inspections of City construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and other regulatory requirements;
- Prepares engineering designs, reports, and estimates for a variety of related projects;
- Collects field data for capital improvement projects;
- Provides information regarding proposed roads and developments, traffic, drainage, erosion issues, street paving, and flood hazard zones;
- Reviews cost estimates for projects, coordinates final measurements and certifies payment to contractors;
- Attends meetings and public hearings as required;
- Investigates and responds to requests and complaints from the general public;
- Supervises Capital Projects personnel as deemed appropriate by Division Head;
- Assists Division Head in the administration of overall engineering program; and
- Performs other engineering duties and related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an ABET accredited college or university; and
- Five years of construction management experience, preferably with a municipality, and at least two years of supervisory experience.

Special Requirements:
- Registered Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina;
- Must possess and maintain a valid, current N.C. driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges; and
- Must have and maintain a good driving record.
