Finance Director
We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance (Finance Director) to oversee all financial aspects of business and drive the City of Natchitoches financial strategy and planning. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the financial performance of the City. A director of finance is a reliable professional with broad knowledge to all governmental accounting, financial and business principles. They are strategic thinkers and effective leaders who can make the most profitable decisions. The goal is to guide the City towards economic sustainability and long-term success.
Responsibilities
- Drive the financial planning of the City by analyzing its performance and risks
- Retain constant awareness of the City’s financial position and act to prevent problems
- Set up and oversee the company’s finance, IT, and utility billing system
- Supervise all accounting and finance personnel (management accountants, internal auditors etc.)
- Oversee all audit and internal control operations
- Collects and has custody of all monies of the City from whatever source
- Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Conduct analysis to make forecasts and report to the Mayor
- Ascertains that funds are available for payment of all contracts, purchase orders, and any other documents which incur financial obligation for the City, and that such documents are in accordance with established procedures
- Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines
- Assists in the evaluation of the City’s Health Insurance Plan, Worker’s Compensation Plan, and other insurance plans such as general liability, auto liability, police and public official’s liability and unemployment insurance
- Administer Federal and State Grants as required
Skills
- Proven experience as director of finance or similar role
- In-depth knowledge of governmental finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices
- Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
- An analytical mind with a strategic ability
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- BS in accounting, finance or relevant field; MS is a plus
- CPA or other relevant qualification is a plus
