College of Agricultural & Life Sciences Oversee daily operations at the Aberdeen Research and Extension Center; manage budgets and expenditures through supervision of financial
technicians and administrative staff, manage farm operations staff activity, hire and train staff and evaluate performance. Oversee operation and maintenance of equipment and buildings. Requires Bachelor's degree and 4+ years related experience in agronomy or a related field.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Overseeing the day to day operation of the research and extension center by coordinating and supervising operations, field and equipment availability and maintenance, managing staff activity, and regularly planning with operations staff and faculty to accommodate specific research needs of UI and USDA ARS project leaders; coordinating foundation seed production; hiring and training operations staff and evaluating performance; supervising staff and temporary help employees (including minors); counseling employees and resolving personnel issues; managing station budgets and expenditures; managing the facilities maintenance and field operation purchases and serving as a primary contact for Center operations; establishing farm maintenance standards, specifications, and procedures; supporting the presence of USDA ARS research; possessing the strength, agility, and ability to work in inclement weather; ensuring compliance with University policy, and Federal and State laws; annually updating Aberdeen Policy Manuals; providing updates on programs to college administration; ensuring active and open communications with involved faculty, staff and administrators; driving to job sites, meetings, and to perform other related job responsibilities.
