Synthetic Biomanufacturing Program Manager
Candidates must have: Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or a closely related field (foreign educational equivalent is acceptable); at least 3 years of experience in microbial fermentation and post-fermentation harvest and processing, which must include:
- 3 years working in a Good Manufacturing Compliant (GMC) facility using a 100-liter or larger fermenter for research and/or commercial use;
- 3 years of E.coli fermentation experience;
- 3 years of experience developing and monitoring process optimization and scale-up to a 100-liter or larger fermenter;
- 3 years of experience developing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for both fermentation and downstream process; and
- 3 years of working experience in large-scale industrial fermentation with a 1000-liter or a larger fermenter.
This position also requires demonstrable abilities in managing facility staff and good communications skills. Successful candidate for this position will: manage the Utah Science Technology And Research (USTAR) Synthetic Biomanufacturing Facility; oversee and assist with the production and development of bioproducts; optimize, monitor and scale up of process in multiple sizes of fermentation equipment ; develop E.coli fermentation process; oversee and assist with post-harvest processing to produce bioproducts; analyze and write new protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP) for biomanufacturing program; implement current good manufacturing compliant requirements for documents and facility; schedule fermentations and purifications with industry and academic partners; ensure proper maintenance and repair of equipment used in the facility; order and maintain necessary supplies; supervise facility staff; participate in attracting new clients for facility and developing new partnerships and business opportunities for Utah State University (public-private partnerships).
This Synthetic Biomanufacturing Program Manager position is located in Logan, Utah, which is situated in a spectacular Rocky Mountain valley approximately one and one-half hour drive north of Salt Lake City.
